Un artista se adentra en su cuadro y deambula por un paisaje poblado de símbolos que desencadenan asociaciones inesperadas.

EMPREINTES (IMPRINTS)

En este cortometraje experimental, Jacques Drouin explora y pone de relieve las dos caras de la pantalla de alfileres de Alexeïeff y Parker. Siguiendo las armonías de una danza para clavicordio de François Couperin, el cineasta se lanza a una lucha cuerpo a cuerpo con su instrumento favorito.

This lecture-screening offers a dive into the films made on the pinscreen, from “Night on Bald Mountain” by Alexandre Alexeïeff and Claire Parker to Jacques Drouin, with a focus on the history of this technique.

Le paysagiste (Mindscape) (Jacques Drouin, Canada, NFB, 1976. 7') B&W
A particularly creative example of the pinscreen animation technique, this film is about an artist who steps inside his painting and wanders about in a landscape peopled with symbols that trigger unexpected associations.

Empreintes (Imprints) (Jacques Drouin, Canada, NFB, 2004, 6') CL
In this short experimental film, animator Jacques Drouin explores and highlights both sides of Alexeïeff-Parker’s pinscreen. Led by the repeated harmonies of a rondo for harpsichord by François Couperin, the film shows the filmmaker hurling himself into a hand-to-hand tussle with his own favorite instrument. Positioning the camera and lighting to reveal the relief formed by the pins, Drouin continually pivots the screen so that the viewer can glimpse the images hidden behind this mysterious screen.
